(Bronx, NY) – The Yanks started the post break run off on the right foot. The weather was hot and so were the Yankee bats as they defeated the Oakland A’s by a score of 7-1 behind strong pitching from Mike Mussina, who improved to 12-6 on the year. After being touched for a run in the first, the Moose settled down and the A’s never threatened again. The bullpen behind David Robertson, Edwar Ramirez and Latroy Hawkins pitched 3 scoreless innings as well.
Richie Sexson picked up an RBI in his first Yankee at-bat to knot it at 1 in the first. Robby Cano provided the winning cushion with a 3-run blast into the right center bleachers. Abreu and A-Rod added RBI singles in the 4th and A-Rod dinged a solo homer later to round out the scoring.
