July 23 – vs. Minnesota

(Bronx, NY) – Two from Sec. 22 (John and Tom) got to attend the closing game of the Twins Series.  Along with their guests (Mike and Garrett) they were able to sit down close in Sec. 50 off the visitor’s dugout.  Mike Mussina pitched a brilliant 8 shutout innings, scattering 6 hits in a solid 5-1 win, and moved his record to 13-6 on the season.  Justin Christian (OF) got the scoring off to a good start for the Yanks with a 2-run triple down the left field corner in the 5th.  In the 6th A-Rod banged a long 2-run double.  Richie Sexson (1B) ended the scoring with his second Yankee RBI with a sac fly.  Mariano Rivera (RP) picked up his 25th save with a pitches and the Yanks won their 10th in a row at home with a series sweep of the Twins.

They had previously swept the A’s and have started the break off with a 6-game winning streak heading into Boston this weekend.  Beating two wild-card contenders has built some nice momentum.  The Yanks improved to 56-45 for the year and now there are only 26 regular-season games left at Yankee Stadium.
