Feb 26 – A Hockey Moment

nyr-red-logo(New York, NY) – While primarily a baseball blog we will comment on other sports from time to time.  This past week had a few memorable or noteworthy moments for at least one local hockey team:  The NY Rangers.  First they honored two long time foundational players, Andy Bathgate and Harry Howell, with a long overdue night and jersey retirement.  Then they went out and lost in nyr-banners_0225_momentOT to the not-so-strong Maple Leafs which just broke the back of GM Glen Sather.

So the following day he fired 5th-year Coach Tom Renney and replaced him with the fiery John Tortorella as the new coach.

A busy week but more games to come and a chance to see if the team that started out so well way back in October and November of  2008 can actually hold on to a playoff spot as their offense moves to the bottom rung in the league.

In more positive hockey news the first-place Devils see future-legend goalie Martin Brodeur return to action this week.

  1. Last nights game was great. The blue shirts scored a season high of 6 goals against Colorado and I witnessed more fights then I have ever seen before. Just hope they can keep the momentum going.

  2. They should have fired the fans so we can stop going to the games.
