Mar 1 – News Roundup

glst-logo(Tampa, FL) – Well as the Hot Stove league begins to wind down here are a few items to ponder.  March should be a busy month as teams really get prepped for the season start and the WBC works its way into the schedule as well.


  • The Mets decided against an MRI on Johan Santana’s elbow due to a good bullpen session and snowy weather in NY.
  • The Dodgers pulled back their 2-year offer to Manny Ramirez and state things have to go back to square one to go forward.
  • The Nationals GM, Jim Bowden, resigned amid allegations of skimming money off of minor league signings with Latin players.
  • The Yanks got plenty of offense (11-runs, 19 hits) against the Reds but their pitching gave up 5 homers and 13 runs total as the Yanks fell to 2-3 in the Grapefruit League.  Brett Gardner hit is 2nd dinger of the year after a season with no long balls.
  • Curt Schilling has indicated that if he comes back to baseball he would consider pitching for the Cubs or Rays.
