Swisher Powers in 5 RBI’s, Cano Gets that Hot Start

ny-jersey-logo(Baltimore MD) – Now that’s more like it.  Good starting pitching and an offense starting to click.   With Tex heating up, Cano making last year’s start a distant memory and A.J. Burnett picking up critical strikeouts, the Yanks notched their first victory with a convincing 11-2 thumping of the Orioles.

game in the 4th followed by a 2-run shot from Nick Swisher, getting his first start of the year, that gave the Bombers a 3-2 lead.  The Yanks broke it open in the 6th with 4 runs: a RBI single from Swisher, 2 on a throwing error from the Orioles pitcher and then a bloop single from Jose Molina.

Burnett did his job, pitching 5.1 innings scattering 7 hits and giving up 2 runs but striking out 6 many in important spots.  Phil Coke relieved him in the 6th and promptly stuck out 2.

Robby Cano remains on fire with 6 hits in the series, but its the walks that are also drawing notice and he reached base 9 times in the first 3 games.  His 2nd homer of the year padded the lead in the 7th to 9-2.  But Swisher was a wrecking crew with a single, double and homer and 5 RBI’s making a statement to Manager Joe Girardi about future playing time.

Once again the bullpen was dominating relieving all 11 batters faced (Coke, Bruney, Veras and Mo).  While not a save situation Mariano did pitch the 9th to get some work and got his 3 batters ending the game with a K.  On to Kansas City!
