Apr 10 – Keeping it All in Perspective

Angels Mourn the Loss of Rookie Pitcher Nick Adenhart

anaheim-angels(Anaheim, CA) – This baseball season started with the same hope and promise for so many teams and so many players just like any other.  Out in California, Angels SP Nick Adenhart had his first start of the year and 4th overall and pitched a gem, leaving after 6 innings with zeros on the scoreboard and a lead.  The bullpen would squander it but all was bright for him and his Dad as he watched from the stands.

However a few hours later he was a tragic victim, along with 2 others, when an apparent drunk driver ran a red light in nearby Fullerton California.    A brutal reminder of the worst the world has to offer and a stark contrast to the simplicities of a ball game and the sport we enjoy to take our minds off of that often cruel world.

All of the Friday Night Yanks and Yankee baseball fans salute Nick and give our condolences to the Adenhart family for such a sad and short ending to a long and promising life.  This writer also lost a brother 18 months ago in a car accident (minding his business too) and the impact that has to one’s emotions and thinking is very difficult for the average reader to realize and hopefully they never will have to experience such.    Over time the Adenharts will realize the greatness he brought and the memory of smiles that will never leave.

Good luck to them all and the Angels team as they move forward on the season.  It will not be an easy one.

  1. That was a tragic story! It puts life in perspective! You have to be careful when crossing the street or drinking after a party! There more to life than sports! You have to take care of your own family and your own lives!
