Apr 14 – Bombed by The Bay: Yanks Clobbered in Tampa 15-5

Pena’s Grand Slam in 2nd Knocks out Wang

baseball-png-png(Tampa, FL) – Well the tone was set early but by the wrong team.  After knocking around C-M Wang in the first inning for 4 runs, a bases loaded walk to Tampa’s Evan Longoria in the 2nd followed by a grand slam by Carlos Pena, Wang’s line read: 1.0 inning, 6 hits, 8 runs, 3 walks and 1 K for an ERA on the season of 28.9.   Not exactly the return from his injury that all were hoping for.

The Yanks would go on to lose to the Rays 15-5.   Albaladejo pitched 3 innings in emergency relief, looking okay at first but eventually getting hit for 3 runs.  Edwar Ramirez also got touched up for a run.  Phil Coke pitched an inning and gave up a hit (a bases clearing double) and 2 walks.  Things were so rocky for the pen that Manager Joe Girardi asked Nick Swisher to pitch an inning (the 8th) and he gave

Nick did the job in the 8th but if we see him on the mound in the future it means bad things have already happened

up a hit and a walk but also got a strikeout and gave up no runs!  Nice to know for the future.

The offense got its usual 5 runs (seems to be the average).  Swisher hit another homer, Posada another double for 2 runs and Ransom finally got his second hit of the year.  But Jeter, Damon and Gardner are all flirting with the Mendoza line while Matsui and Ransom remain firmly buried well under it.  With Tex and A-Rod out of the lineup things are not exactly where we want them.

All and all a lousy game.  With A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte set for the next two starts things should improve.

  1. Chien-Ming Wang was horrible again! His sinker was again high in the zone! If Chien-Ming Wang get bombed in his next start versus the Cleveland Indians on Saturday then I will be worried and annoyed!
