Apr 29 – Deja Vu! Joba Duplicates Phil, Yanks Take Tigers 8-6

Team Rebounds to Take the Series and Salvage Road Trip

nyy-27-logo(Detroit, MI) – So this is what Yankee fans were dreaming about last year when the hype and promise of Joba (1-0) and Phil Hughes (along with Ian Kennedy) had everyone excited for great pitching.  But no one minds now that the dream actually takes place this year as long as it continues and doesn’t turn to a nightmare.  At least for 2 consecutive spring nights in April, one can get excited as Joba turns in a sparkler as well

with a 7-inning, 3 hit 6 K performance and gets his first win of the year.

Once again the offense was a little dormant early and then exploded with a big inning, this time in ther 4th inning with 7 runs.  Nick Swisher returned to wrecking crew form with 2 homers and 4 RBI’s on the night, while Matsui remains hot and picked up 3 RBI’s.  Damon had 2 hits and all-in-all the offense cranked out 9 of them.  Phil Coke pitched well in relief but Albaladejo got in trouble and the Tigers made it close in the 9th with 5 runs, the last coming off a homer off of Mo.  But the win was nailed.

  1. Me too. I dislike bullpen pitchers who walk hitters.

  2. I hate when the bullpen just has to make it interesting, its nerve wracking.
