May 8 – Step #1: A-Rod and C.C. Rise, Yanks Shutout Orioles 4-0

C.C. Goes All 9 with a 4-hitter, A-Rod Homers on First At-Bat

nyy-27-logo(Baltimore, MD) – Even the best Hollywood script writers probably would have not drawn up A-Rod homering in his first at-bat, citing that it would not be considered plausible.  But he did and his 3-run blast was all the Yanks would need as even better, Sabathia (2-3) turned in what everyone has been waiting for:  a dominating performance 85128482ML08_YANKEES_ORIOLESover all 9 innings with 8 k’s to register the shutout.

Cano remained hot on the road (2 hits), while Damon also chipped in a hit (a RBI double) and Melky notched 2 hits.  And Francisco Cervelli, now the #1 catcher, got his first MLB hit.  But Jeter and Tex continue to slump.

The Yanks have a long way to go but this was a great first step.  Two of their stars came through.  Now they have to keep it up.   The Yanks 5-game skid is ended, they move to 14-15 and hope to get back to winning series.

  1. The Yankees didn’t win tonight versus the Baltimore Orioles. The final score was 12-5. I didn’t know Phil Hughes got bombed. The Yankees hopefully win the series tomorrow afternoon with Joba Chamberlain starting for the Yankees against Koji Uehara for the Baltimore Orioles.

  2. well for one night it all came together with tremendous pitching from C.C. and a timely hit from A-Rod. Maybe we can start a new trend and rip off 4-5 in a row versus the other way.

  3. Kevin Cash is the backup catcher got called up from Triple A-Scranton Wilkes Barre Yankees. The Yankees designated Steven Jackson for assignment to make room for Kevin Cash on the 40-man roster and on the 25-man roster. Mark Melancon got sent down to Triple A-Scranton Wilkes Barre to make room for Alex Rodriguez. Now Phil Hughes must follow C.C. Sabathia lead and pitch well tomorrow night versus Adam Eaton of the Baltimore Orioles.
