May 10 – Long Ball: Yanks Top O’s 5-3

Take the Series, using 3 Homers for Victory

ny-jersey-logo(Baltimore, MD) – This one is fairly easy to post.  All the runs in the game came on the long ball.  Tex opened with a solo shot (#7) in the first but the O’s responded with a 3-run blast by Aubrey Huff off of Joba

for an early 3-1 Baltimore lead.  Then Joba (2-1) settled down for the next 5 innings and kept the Yanks in striking distance.

Phil Coke pitched two blank innings in relief and then in the 7th Robby Cano belted #6 on the year to close the gap and later in the inning Johnny Damon knocked a 3-run shot (#9 on the year) to give the Yanks a 5-3 lead.  Mariano walked his first batter of the year but retired the other 3 for his 6th save.   The Yanks had 11 hits on the day with Jeter and Cano grabbing 2 each.

A nice tidy win, another come from-behind-late one, for the Bombers on Mother’s Day.  After a day off on Monday they will move on to Toronto.  Their record is now 15-16.

  1. The Daily News said this is the third straight season that the Yankees started 15-16 at this point in the baseball season. I am not sure if the Yankees are going to win 89 games and miss the postseason like last year or win 95 or 96 games in 2007 and make the postseason.
