May 16 – Walkoff Mania: A-Rod Blast in 11th Caps Win over Twins 6-4

Tex Has Big Game, Goes 4-4 with 4 RBI’s

NYY-Logo(Bronx, NY) – Well the 2009 team seems to be building an identity:  Come from behind, score late and win.  For the 2nd game in the row and one of several in their first 19 wins, the Yanks had another walk-off win at the Stadium.  And the hallowed ghosts of 161st and River Ave seem to be slowly finding their place in the new halls.

For the Twins the M and M boys (Mauer and Morneau) each hit long homers again as they did last night.   Joba had a good outing limiting the Twins to 3 hits and 2 runs while picking up 6 k’s in 6 innings of work.  But by and large it was the

Mark Teixeira breakout game, with Tex banging a 3-run homer to give the early lead and then hitting a big 2-out tying run single in the 8th to keep other Yanks alive as they had fallen behind 4-3 earlier in the inning.  Relief work by Mo for 2 innings was strong and Alfredo Aceves got the win with a solid 11th inning.

In the bottom of the 11th, Tex drew a walk and A-Rod, looking for his first hit in the new stadium, delivered a deep drive into the left field bleachers for the consecutive walk-off win.

Notes:  Yanks move to 19-17 and have taken 6 of the last 8 and 4 in a row.  The Yanks have beaten the Twins 21 of the last 24 in Yankee Stadium.

  2. Oh my gosh! I couldn’t believe it! I went to the game and the Yankees won 3-2 in 10 innings on a walkoff home run hit by Johnny Damon! Mark Texieira got a out at home plate and Brett Tomko got out of a bases loaded jam!!!

  3. A-Rod got a shaving cream of pie given to by A.J. Burnett!! Melky Cabrera got a pie too by A.J. Burnett!! Will I see a Yankees walkoff win versus the Minnesota Twins tomorrow? Kevin Slowey pitch for the Minnesota Twins on Sunday versus A.J. Burnett for the New York Yankees!!
