May 20 – 8 is Not Enough: Yanks Streak Along, Take Orioles 11-4

Back-Back-Back Homers from Swisher-Cano-Melky Power Victory

yankees-logo-script(Bronx, NY) – Seems ever game has a new historic moment to it.  This time the Yanks set the tone early and after pulling ahead 1-0 in the first on a Teixeira double, they exploded for a rare 3 consecutive homers from Nick Swisher, Robby Cano and Melky Cabrera to take their 8th win in a row and moved to 23-17 and closer to first place.

Offense was abundant enough, with hits and RBI’s from many but Cano had the biggest night with

a 3-4 performance and 3 RBI’s.

Phil Hughes (2-2) pitched 5 innings giving up 3 runs with 9 K’s and got good relief from Aceves, Coke and Mariano (S-8) for the final innings.  Mo gave up a solo shot in the 9th.

Notes: A-Rod’s 4 consecutive games with a home run streak ended.  The Yanks win another series and go for the sweep tomorrow with Joba on the hill.  The Yanks have also won 10 of their last 12.  Brian Bruney has rejoined the club as well and C-M Wang is getting closer.

  1. I couldn’t believe that Phil Hughes struck out nine Baltimore Orioles hitters!! I know Phil Hughes was a power pitcher in the Yankees minor league system with a supposely 95-96 mph fastball but I have never seen those readings on the YES Network gun at the major league level!! I can’t figure out Phil Hughes out from game to game!! I guess that the learning process for a young pitcher at the Major League level!! Phil Hughes is now 2-2 this season after last year disastrous season with no wins!! Phil Hughes is only 22 years old but the Yankees must be patient with him and hopefully developed into an ace or a number two or three starter into the future!!
