May 28 – Back on Top: Yanks Take Texas Series, Tie Boston for First

A.J. Burnett Dominates, Yanks Rest Up Before Big Stretch

nyy2-logo(New York, NY) – The Yanks (27-20) defeated Texas 9-2 on Wednesday night to take the series and put on some big smiles on a lot of faces.  First up was A.J. Burnett who finally got a win after a month of none, tossing 6 scoreless innings, giving  only 3 hits and getting 7 k’s.  Matsui smiled with his two dingers, while Tex (15) and Cano (9) joined the party as well.  All told 15 Bomber hits were collected and short of a two-run shot, served up by Jose Veras, the team played well.

More importantly with the win the Yanks moved to a tie with Boston and back into first place for the first time in a long time.  It took 47 games but at least they made it and can now focus on staying there as they open a 4-game set with Cleveland who continues to play pretty well.  Other good news is the return of Jorge Posada to the line-up come Friday.

On the down front, Brian Bruney goes back to the DL (D. Robertson came up) and Melky has a banged up shoulder and may miss the Indians series altogether.  Also Swisher continues to slump.  But all an all more good than bad is in the report.

  1. I am happy that Jorge Posada is back today but Melky Cabrera hopefully is a quick healer with his bruise right shoulder!!

  2. Posada is back tomorrow, I’m excited! Hopefully Melky has a quick recovery.
