Jun 1 – New Month, Same Results: Yanks Win Again, 5-2 Over Indians

Set new MLB record for Errorless Ball, Joba Excels

yankees-logo-script(Cleveland OH) – The Yanks continue their hot streak now taking 15 of the last 19 and took 5 of the 7 on the road trip.  This time it was a great performance by Joba that keyed the attack while the Yanks finally broke through and capitalized on the 11 walks issued by Cleveland pitching in the 7th.

It was a tight game for most of the night with Joba making good pitches when he needed to and an outstanding defensive play to get out of trouble in the 5th inning.  With 2 on and no out Joba leaped for a sac bunt, made the catch fully extended then turn and doubled off the runner at 2nd.  In the 6th the Yanks failed to score with the bases loaded and no outs but in the 7th

they got it done when Nick Swisher (2-4) knocked in two with a double off the wall (and had 3 RBI’s on the night) and A-Rod followed with a 2-run single to make it 5-1.

This time the bugs made no difference.  Joba (3-1) was terrific with his longest outing ever at 8 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5.   Mariano (S-11) closed out the 9th.    The Yanks set a new record for games without an error by going 18 now and breaking the Red Sox record of 17 from 2006

Notes:  Jeter hit streak extended to 15 games while Tex is at 14.  The Yanks remain in first place and a  full game ahead of Boston to start the month at 30-21.

  1. Joba should be in the eighth inning period!! Let Wang and Hughes be in the Yankees rotation!! We need to somebody to step up and dominate close games in the playoffs in the eighth inning especially in order to win a title!!

  2. i know that joba is coming off one of his best starts ever, but its still my feeling that he should be in the bullpen before the year is out…i think that by sept 1st, he will have met his inning cap and will be moved to the pen for the stretch run and the playoffs…thats why we havent gone out and found a lights out RP yet
