Jul 20 – Deja Vu! Yanks Win Another 2-1 Game, This Time Over Baltimore

Matsui Hits Walk-off Homer, Great Defense in the 8th Saves the Game

nyy-26-logo(Bronx, NY) – The Yanks won their 3rd straight 2-1 game and in a repeat of Sunday’s tight one it was another game with 3 homers, with the Yanks again getting 2 of them to the visitors 1.  It was also the Yanks 9th walk-off of the season so far.

Both pitchers locked into a another duel with Andy Pettitte for the Yanks going  a strong 7.1 before yielding to Phil Coke who made a big pitch with the Orioles threatening with 2nd and 3rd and 1 out.  But a bouncer to Tex allowed him to come home and nail the runner while Molina was able to toss to Coke to get the third out in a tag on Brian Roberts after the ball had gotten away.    Two tags at home by Molina on one pitch!

Aceves picked up the last two outs in the 9th with Hughes and Mo out of action and did the job and improved to 6-1 with the walk off win.

Matsui’s dinger was his 15th while Eric Hinske hit his 4th homer for the Yanks (in 13 at bats) to tie the score at 1-1 in the second inning.  The Yanks only had 4 hits on the night but made them count and the pitching was again superb.  This time though the defense was even a bigger factor.

The Yanks move to 55-37 for a season high 18 games over .500 and took their 4th in a row.
