Jul 24 – TGIF: Yanks Roll On, Defeat Oakland 8-3

Joba Tosses 2-hitter through 7, Jeter and Melky Garner 3 Hits Each

NYY 2009 Stadium Logo(Bronx, NY) – And they keep on rolling.  The Yanks took their 8th straight off the All-Star Break paced by a 2-hitter by Joba (6-2) through 7 innings.  It was the first ‘easy’ game for the Yanks who have been winning by 3 runs or less in most games in the streak.

Joba got in trouble early yielding a 1-out double that came in to score in the first but then settled down.  The Yanks got 2 in the third to take a lead they would not relinquish on a RBI single from Jeter and a fielder’s choice by Damon.  The Yanks stretched it to 4-1 before Posada blasted his 13th homer of the season in the 8th and they tacked on 3 more runs to make it 8-1 going into the 9th.   Melky had a big 3-hit night and Phil Coke pitched well in relief.

Oakland picked up a few runs in the 9th off of Dave Robertson but Sinatra was ready to sing and the Yanks moved to 59-37 on the year and maintained their 2.5 game lead over Boston in the AL East.

  1. It looks like Joba has got his fire back, and as a result has been pitching much better. I’m so happy!

  2. The Yankees eighth game winning streak got snapped today as the Yankees lost to the Oakland A’s 6-4!! Andy Pettitte wasn’t horrible but he got into trouble with a single, walk and a bunt hit that loaded the bases in the seventh inning but Alfredo Aceves was terrible today in the seventh inning!! But Aceves didn’t have it today!! Beautiful pictures of the Friday night gang!! The Yankees are now 59-38 this season as the up to date record!!
