Aug 8 – Empire Strikes Back: Yanks Shutout Red Sox 5-0

Sabathia is Dominant, Yanks Eye Sweep

(Bronx, Nny-jersey-logoY) – The results of the winter signings were in full force.  C.C. Sabathia turned in a brilliant performance (to match AJ’s from Friday) working on a perfect game until a walk to Ortiz and leaving after 7.2 innings with only 2 hits on his record.  The Yanks did it again and beat the reeling Red Sox 5-0 before another capacity crowd at the new stadium.

Teixeira gave the Yanks the only run they would need early while Jeter sat down Mo in the bullpen with a 8th inning 2-run shot down the right field line.  Robbie Cano had 3 hits on the day to pace the Yanks attack.

Bucholtz pitched a pretty good game for Boston who once again gave their starter very little run support but no complaints from the Yankee fans who have watched the Bombers rebound from their early 0-8 record against them to take 3 straight and 6 in a row in league play.   The Yanks played good defense, small ball (finally!) when they needed to and continued to get good relief pitching.

Phil Hughes once again pitched to one batter and blew him away.  Dave Robertson mopped up in the 9th after the game moved to a non-save situation.

Notes: Off the All-Star break the Yanks are now 17-5.  At 68-42 the Yanks now own the best record in baseball and lead by 5.5 games with the series finale at 8:05 PM on Sunday night.

  1. Dave Robertson got a sneaky fastball along with a good curveball that freeze hitters and he can contribute!! It’s all about the pitching!! Along with some hitting and timely hits!! Come on Chris we need to buried the Red Sox as soon as possible and let them sweat for a playoff spot!!!

  2. The Yankees are 30-10 in their last 40 games, that is just unbelievable! Now they have a series win against Boston, and even if they don’t win today they will still have a 4.5 game lead in the AL East.

I really like David Robertson, and I hope he sticks around for a long time. I think he can be a real contributor in the playoffs. And it was nice to see him work out of a little jam in the 9th yesterday.
