Sep 6 – Split City: Yanks Drop Finale to Jays 14-8

Split the Series, Head Home off a 5-2 Road Trip

baseball-png-png(Toronto, CA) – Things looked promising heading to the bottom of the 5th.  The Yanks had battled back after trailing 3-0 and thanks to a 2-run shot from Nick Swisher (#24 for the year) a 6-5 lead seemed well enough.

Swisher went 2-4 with 3 RBI's on the Day, one of the bright spots for the Yanks

But Sergio Mitre (3-2) got hammered and when the inning was over the Blue Jays had scored 8 runs and led 12-5 en-route to their

eventual 14-8 win to split the four-game set with the Yanks.  Team defense was terrible as well with 4 errors.

The Bombers did bang out 13 hits but the pitching was sub-par.  Jeter did get 3 more hits and moved to within 4 of breaking Lou Gehrig’s franchise record.  He will get two shots on Monday at home due to a double-header with Tampa.

Notes:   The Yanks are now 87-50 on the season.  Sabathia will go for win #17 in the first game on Monday while A.J. Burnett tries to get back on the winning track in the night cap.   Brett Gardner may re-join the team on Monday.

  1. Brett Gardner is in the starting lineup in the first game against the Rays!!! I hope the Yankees just win three out of four against the Rays!!! And get A.J. Burnett back on track!!!!!

  2. That game was atrocious, the Yankees made more errors than the box score says. I just hope they shake it off a play a good series against Tampa Bay in New York.

  3. The Yankees defense made minimum six mental errors or physical errors along with the subpar pitching by Mitre!!! It was a very sloppy game by the Yankees!!! This is the worst performance of the season even though there were stinkers also along the way too!!!!
