Oct 7 – First Blood: Yanks Breeze Over Twins 7-2

Take Game #1 with Homers by Jeter, Matsui, CC Cruises

nyy2-logo(Bronx, NY) – The Yanks opened their first playoff series in the new stadium with the respect the franchise deserves:  a solid win over the visiting Twins, fresh off their dramatic win of the AL Central the night before.

There were a lot of big hits on offense but in reality that 2-run shot by Jeter to tie the game was probably the biggest as it got the Yanks bank into it and seemed to loosen everyone up.  Swisher hit a nice double down the line to give the Yanks the lead at 3-2 and Matsui’s left center yard shot made it 6-2 and things seemed to be in control.  A-Rod added 2 different RBI singles as well while the bullpen, led by a big K from Phil Hughes in the bottom of the 7th to get C.C. out of jam was huge.  Even Mo finished things up in the 9th with a 5-run lead, but driven by the off day on Thursday.

  1. Let see A.J. Burnett and Jose Molina worked well together and execute their pitches on Friday night along with the Yankees offense such as A-Rod, Jeter, Swisher, and Matsui along with Texieira!!!!

  2. They made it look easy last night! Now lets see Burnett and the offense have solid game on Friday Night- and then off to Minnesota…

Team looked good all around against a tired Twins squad.
