Oct 17 – Hot Stuff! Yanks Win a Classic in 13, Defeat Angels 4-3 on Error

A-Rod Blast in the 11th Extends the 5 Hour Marathon

ny-jersey-logo(Bronx, NY) – Another instant Yankees Classic for the YES Network.  With brutal conditions, the Yanks weathered the storm and took a 2-0 lead in the ALCS over LA with another dramatic walk-off win at the stadium.  Just like Game 2 in the ALDS, the Yanks found a way to stay alive, thanks again to another game-tying homer from A-Rod off an elite AL closer, this time Brian Fuentes.

The game had it all.  Great catches, 5 errors (3 from Yanks, 2 from LA), timely hits and endless drama with mean left on base.  A triple from Cano and a solo shot from Jeter gave the Yanks the early 2-0 lead but AJ Burnett struggled in the 5th and the Angels tied it up.  AJ pitched well enough going into the 7th and the Yankee bullpen pitched well and there were many:  Coke, Joba, Hughes and Mariano (for 2.1 innings) held the fort with an eventual go ahead run served by Aceves.  But A-Rod bailed him out and the

team felt destined to win.

Even Damaso Marte got a big out.  Eventual winner David Robertson pitched well.  Jerry Hairston’s pinch hit single in the bottom of the 13th set the stage for the throwing error by Izturis on a Melky ground ball and the pie man was in business.  17 walk-offs in 2009 with more to play.  4 playoff games at the new stadium, all wins.  The magic is back and the ghosts are smiling.

  1. The Yankees lost game 3 to the Angels 5-4 in the bottom of the 11th inning!!! I couldn’t figure out why Joe Girardi took out Dave Robertson when he had great stuff and location today and gave it to Aceves with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning!!!!
