Feb 10 – Taking the Fifth: Five Via for the Last Rotation Spot

(New York, NY) – Well it seems it is down to four although some think it is already set for one player.    Joba Chamberlain is expected to arrive in camp on Wednesday and will be competing with Phil Hughes, Alfredo Aceves, Chad Gaudin and Sergio Mitre for a chance to serve as the fifth starter in the Yanks rotation.

Cast your vote or comment on who you think should be that 5th starter behind C.C., A.J., good old Andy and Javy.

  1. It is going to be a debate!! We will find out who will be the fifth starter at the end of Spring Training!! I would love Hughes to be the fifth starter but I am not sure what Joba is!! Is Joba Chamberlain better built to starter or be the setup guy or future closer when Rivera retired!!

  2. I really want Hughes to be a starter, and it hurts me a bit every time I see him in the bullpen, but at this point not to have Joba in the rotation would be stupid. He is off his innings limit, and ready to really pitch, why would you waste that by putting him in the pen? Hopefully, Hughes would still be able to make some spot starts, and have some long relief outings to keep his innings count respectable so he can go into 2011 as a full time starter.
