Apr 8 – 2 out of 3: Yanks Rally over Boston 3-1 in Extra Innings

Granderson Homer breaks Tie in the 10th, Bullpen Shines Again

(Boston, MA) – The Yanks improved to 2-1 on the year and took the opening series from Boston with a tight 3-1 win over the home squad.  Unlike the previous 2 games this time the starters for both teams (Lackey and Pettitte) were pretty sharp and each lasted through 6 innings, giving up a solo run apiece.

But the Yanks bullpen was solid  again with Chan Ho Park (1-1) redeeming himself with 3 scoreless innings in nabbing the win. Mariano grabbed his second save in as many nights.

  1. True about winning 2 in Boston, Brendan, and with Teixeira. On the other hand, they won their first two without much at all from the 3-4 spots. The bottom of the lineup was terrific.

Park’s 3 excellent innings shocked me. I’ve never been a big fan of his, but will gladly eat crow if he pitches like that–if not as long–this year. Tremendous work. Great that the boys picked up Pettite, too. They’ve let him down in Fenway more than once, especially in April 2008 when they blew that 5-2 lead in the 8th. Yeeeeeesh.

  2. happy to see the yanks take to outta 3 from our hated rivals to the north…last yr we lost our first 8 games vs them, so this series was especially sweet…

good to see andy get off to a good start…good to see the bullpen to get off to a good start…

will someone please tell teixeira that the season has started…i know he is a notoriously slow starter, but come on…answer the bell big mark
