Apr 22 – Oh No! Hughes Misses no-hitter, Yanks take A’s 3-1

Second almost no-no in 12 Days, Yanks Streak at 6 Wins

(Oakland CA) –  Phil Hughes just missed. Again.  He flirted with the second chance at a no-hitter, this time going into the 8th inning before a infield hit by Eric Chavez ended the bid.  Hughes was dominant on the night, retiring 20 in a  row and getting a career high 10 K’s.

Back-back triples by A-Rod and Cano got the Yanks out to a 2-0 lead and they would eventually manufacture a 3rd run off a Brett Gardner single.  Hughes was special all night and was lifted in the 8th allowing Joba to get the last 2 outs before yielding to Mariano for his 6th save of the year.

  1. emmett is just pumped up b/c he has hughes on his fantasy team signed to a 5 yr contract…he has alot invested in the young righty from so.cal

  2. It has been a splendid start. The Yankees are currently on a two game losing streak after last night 6-4 loss to the Angels. Joba Chamberlain gave up the game winning home run to Kendry Morales. Now the Yankees are 11-5.

  3. The highlight of this Yankee Season so far, aside from their great record, has to be the starting pitching and one of the brightest spots has to be lowly # 5 starting Phil Hughes. He is number 5 in name only. He is truly pitching as a mid rotation starter with high rotation upside. Don’t want to get overly excited about two starts but he is bringing the heat. His success this year and in the future will give the Yankees that much more flexibility in their rotation when it comes to Andy’s yearly decision, Vasquez’s future etc, yearly Joba debate. Either way- great season so far!
