May 21 – Citi Lights: Yanks Take Subway Opener 2-1 Over Mets

Largest Crowd Ever at Citi Field, Yanks End Slide

(New York, NY) – Both starters were brilliant for the two New York teams,  but in the end only 1 got the win.  Javy Vazquez (3-4) turned in the performance Yankee management have been expecting when he was signed in the off season.  He pitched 1-hit ball over 6 innings before leaving with a injury (to be examined) to his index finger.  The Yanks had several chances against the Mets Takahashi who made his first start and got the job done as well.  Local Long Island born Kevin Russo had his first MBL hit and followed with a 2-run double to give the Yanks the runs they needed.

After two poor performances by Joba he got the job done tonight.  Mariano got banged a little with 2 outs in the 9th and gave up a run but pulled out the save (#8) with a final out by David Wright to end the game.

  1. good to see vazquez finally pitching well…we need him to step up and be big…lengthy starts takes the pressure off a suddenly shaky bullpen…also reduces the pressure on phil…

  2. Javy Vazquez index finger X-rays were negative. Now move on tomorrow night starter Phil Hughes and the Yankees!!
