Jun 13 – First Things First: Yanks Sweep ‘Stros, Tie Rays for AL East Lead

2nd Posada Slam Leads 9-5 Win

(Bronx, NY ) – The Bronx Bombers continue to beat the teams they are suppose to beat and moved to a tie with Tampa at 40-23 with a 9-5 win over the inter-league visiting Astros.  Phil Hughes gave up 5 runs but got his usual major-leading run support of 7 or more and improved to 9-1.  It remains frustrating to watch a pitcher that is being limited in innings to be left in with a 6 run lead and having thrown over 100 pitches.  Girardi did a poor job of not using his 7-man bullpen sooner with an off-day coming up.

But Posada knocked his second gram slam in as many days along with a solo shot from Robbie Cano.  Gardner and Pena had nice contributions at the plate as well.
