Aug 17 – Power Outage: Yanks Bats Quiet in Loss to Detroit 3-1

2nd Straight game with Limited Hits

(Bronx, NY) – The Yanks offense was once again missing as they saw another new pitcher and almost were shutout back-back.  Having lost the series finale in KC 1-0, they struggled with Max Scherzer from Detroit for most of the game.  A bases loaded walk to Brett Gardner in the bottom of the 9th got them one run but Jeter hit a game ending double play to stop the rally.

Vazquez (9-9) gave up a 2-run shot early but worked out of various jams before departing in the 5th where Sergio Mitre took over and put in 2 2/3 nice innings of work.  Kerry Wood did well enough before Joba gave up a solo shot to Miguel Cabrera in the top of the 9th.

At 72-46 the Yanks are now tied with Tampa for the AL East.

Note:  The fans gave Johnny Damon a warm reception in his first game at the stadium since he left the team.  Swisher (forearm) and A-Rod (calf) left the game due to injury and are day-day.
