Sep 14 – Gut Check: Yanks Rebound To Take Tampa 8-7 in 10 Innings

Posada PH Homer the Difference; A-Rod, Cano Also Go Long

(Tampa, FL) – First the offense got clicking on Tex Sac fly, an A-Rod RBI single and a 2-Run shot by Cano for a 4-0 lead.  The Yanks would make it 6-0 and all looked well behind Ivan Nova’s 1-hit ball in the bottom of the 5th.  Then the wheels fell off and the Yanks looked up to a 7-6 deficit in shock.  But they battled back for the tying run and in extra innings, Posada pinch hit for Cervelli and went long for the lead.  Mariano got the save with a  big assist from Greg Golson who threw out Carl Crawford to end the game as he tried to advance to 3rd base.  It was a special play and a big one as the Yanks pulled out win in the midst of their slide.

The Yanks had 13 hits on the night to Tampa’s 8.  Cano was 3-4 with a HR and 3 RBI’s.  The Yanks moved back into first by a half game with the win and sit at 88-57 with 17 games to go.

  1. The Yankees magic number to clinch a playoff spot is down to 11 and for the A.L. East is down to 18.

  2. The last week of games have been incredible. While the Yankees have ended up on the losing end of some of them its getting them battled tested for October baseball combine that with their experience plus hopefully a return from a few injuries- Andy etc.- hopefully the Yanks are ready to end Sept strong and fly into October playing winning baseball!
