Oct 6 – Target Practice: Yanks Send Tex Message and Beat Twins 6-4

CC Does enough, Bullpen Excels, Grandersen Triple is Huge

(Minneapolis, MN) – The Yanks did it again, weathering an 3-0 early hole to the Twins but battling back for a 4-run 6th inning to take the lead.  Then Tex hit a big 2-run shot in the 7th to get out in front and the bullpen did their job as Logan, Robertsen, Wood and Mariano closed the door.  For Mo it was post-season save #40.

Sabathia (1-0) was not dominant.  He gave up a 2-run homer early and then an unearned run on a Posada passed ball to fall behind 3-0.  But a 4-run 6th inning put the Yanks in front.  RBI singles by Cano and Posada and a large 2-run triple by Grandersen led the way.  Minnesota would tie it 4-4 with a bases loaded walk to setup the key 7th inning. Then Tex put a long high fly right around the right field foul pole to put the Bombers ahead 6-4.

Logan, Robertsen and Wood made big pitches to keep in the same and Mariano got a 4-out save to seal the win. It was a solid come-from-behind win and the 7th in a row in the post season against the Twins.

  1. Good game. These games are the toughest since usually you are facing not only the best pitchers but also the best line ups. CC did enough to win- and I wanted him out of the game at that point for sure in case we need him for Game 4. Mo’s out in the 8th won the game. Robertson’s strike out wasn’t too shabby either!

  2. CC Sabathia didn’t have his A stuff. But he kept battling in the game. CC was frustrated after he gave up the 4-3 lead to 4-4 on a walk. But Tex and the bullpen bailed CC out but I know there were scary moments.
