Oct 15 – Rally Men: Yanks Strike First with 6-5 Drama Win in Texas

5-Run 8th Inning Caps It, Bullpen Bails out CC

(Arlington, TX) – It started with a solo shot from Robbie in the 7th and then a hustle single by Brett to lead off the 8th.  Then the all-time post-season hit leader, Derek Jeter doubled in the 2nd run and the rally was on.  The Yanks would get walks to Swish and Tex, a 2-run single from A-Rod, a tying RBI from Cano (3-4, 2 RBI’s) and then a broken bat winning RBI rom Marcus and just like that the Bombers were on top.

CC was not sharp and fell behind 3-0 after Josh Hamilton went yard in the first.  But a big play was a tag out at home plate by CC to end the inning after a passed ball hit hard off the wall and back to Posada who completed the toss for the high shoulder tag by Sabathia on Nelson Cruz.  CC would leave down 5 runs and the unsung heroes were Joba and Dustin Mosley (1-0) who pitched 3 scoreless innings between them both to get to the 8th.  Kerry Wood would get a scoreless 8th (big play was the pickoff of Kinsler after a leadoff walk) and Mo finished up the 9th also after giving up a lead-off single.

More to follow.

Notes: Jeter scored his 100th post-season run in the 8th.  The Rangers still have not won a post season game in their home ball park in the history.  The Yanks have won 10 straight from Texas in the playoffs now.

  1. That was a great game. CC Sabathia wasn’t sharp. Need to pitch on normal rest or three days of rest.
