Oct 18 – b-LEE-ding: Yanks K’d by Lee and Rangers 8-0

Good Duel from Lee vs. Andy, But Robertson Implodes in the 9th

(New York, NY) – The Yanks find themselves in an uncomfortable position having been defeated soundly by Texas and trailing 2-1 in the series.  But their offense has disappeared in the series, with the exception of the one big inning in game 1 and they head to game 4 with a shaky starter, AJ Burnett, scheduled to be on the hill.  Cliff Lee did as he does, striking out 13 and allowing only 2 hits in 8 shutout innings.  On the night 15 Yankees would fan. Andy matched it well enough except for a 2-run homer by Josh Hamilton in the first inning and against any other pitcher probably would have notched his 20th post season victory.

David Robertson gave up 5 hits and 6 runs in the 9th in a third of an inning as the Rangers put the game away for good.

Notes:   Lee’s 13 strikeouts gave him six double-digit strikeout games in eight postseason starts and set a new career postseason high.   He is the first pitcher in big league history to reach double digit strikeouts in three consecutive games in a single postseason.

  1. One more thing….if that was it for Andy…he goes down as one of the greatest pitchers in Yankee history….they have had so many gifted hitters…but pitching- I would Andy up there with any of them.

  2. That was a hell of a game pitched last night. Hopefully Burnett was inspired. Tying this series at 2-2 tonight is critical.

Big Game Andy looked great and 100% confident in him pitching a Game 7 matchup if it came down to it.

  3. The New York Yankees better get Cliff Lee in the offseason. If you can’t beat Cliff Lee in the postseason sign him as a free agent.
