Free Falling: Yanks Drop 6th Straight, Lose to Tampa 7-5

Not Much Going Well at the Moment

(Tampa, FL) – It’s been a while since the Yanks (20-19) lost 5 straight at home and the change of scenery to the road started to look promising.  After Nunez gave the team a key 2-run single in the 2nd inning, Granderson knocked his 14th homer of the season to give the Yanks a nice 5-1 lead after 5 innings.  A.J. Burnett was cruising and then the wheels came off in the bottom of the 6th as Sam Fuld hit a 2-run shot and then after some wild pitches and another run he served up another 2-run homer to BJ Upton and the lead.  Quite a shame given how the Yanks had battled through Tampa’s ace, David Price and needed to stop the bleeding.  Now they face a tough James Shields to end the short series.

Just about all categories, (pitching, hitting, base running and fielding) are out of sync.  Hopefully some one or two or three will step up to get the momentum back the other way soon.

Notes:  The Yanks are now 3 back in the AL East and Boston and Toronto are tied for 2nd place with them.

  1. Split in Tampa is good. Tough since the Yanks coughed up a lead that on Tampa’s ace, Price, the first night. Next up- Baltimore and the Mets.

Tough opening matchup with rookie sensation Zach Britton taking the hill for Baltimore. Hopefully the Yankees bats keep on getting better.

  2. The Yankees are two games back in the A.L. East Standings after last night 6-2 win. A-Rod hit two home runs. Now heading to Camden Yards to take on the O’s.
