Jul 7 – Happy Anniversary FNY!

FNY(New York, NY ) – Well we are a little late for the celebration but the FNY blog began just over a year ago (first post was July 3rd).    What was originally planned to just capture some of the games of the Friday Night Package has grown nicely to covering more games, more news, rolling through the offseason and even getting season T-Shirts for the upper deck crew.

We’ve been able to see the closing of the great old stadium as well as see a bunch of walk-off wins in the grand new stadium.  And to have over 10,000 visits in the the first year, many from other parts of the world has also been pretty cool.  It’s been a fun year and the 2nd half of this season will hopefully be as much fun.  Back from vacation now so on to some blogging!

Jun 23 – Checking out the Other Blogs

wordpress2(Suffern, NY) – The Yanks begin a 3-game set with the Braves tonight but lots of comments on their recent performance is swirling in the blog-o-sphere.  So it’s that time again.  Time to take a look at some other interesting posts from fellow bloggers:  Please check them out.  Good stuff:

May 3 – Between the Rain Drops

nyymlb-logo(Bronx, NY) – The Yanks will try hard to get the last game with the Angels in since they do not return to NY this year.  Given the forecast it will be very tough.  With the loss to LA yesterday the Yanks sit at 13-11, still 3rd in the AL East behind Toronto and Boston but given some of their problems to date, maybe not so bad.  A quick look at the upside and downside so far this year:

Upside: Posada is surely back to full form (at least offensively) and the same for Cano and Melky.  Swisher has been great as well.  Bruney pitched well until hurt.  Matsui is now very hot and also seems back to form.   Pena has filled in nicely with his glove and even a little with his bat of late.  Damon and Jeter have been the usual consistent selves, with big hits here and there.

Downside: The bullpen, in general, led by very disappointing results from Veras, Ramirez, and Marte (now heading to the DL).  Even Mo has been inconsistent.  Then the starters:  C.C. sits at 1-3, Wang is, well no need to say more.  AJ and Andy have been more good than not.  Joba has been mixed.  In the position players, Tex is hitting .182 or lower and Gardner really has not hit well.

A-Rod: You should notice we have not really covered him much, either good or bad.  Why?  Because lots of other Yankee blogs do that with the daily updates on his rehab results as well as the tabloid news of the moment so we defer to them since it takes a ton of time to do this stuff.

Blog Plans for this week or longer:  Will try to get some stories on Minor league teams, especially Scranton, a Legends Look, and some Stadium pictures or thoughts.

Apr 18 – Blog Update

FNY(Suffern, NY) – Some miscellaneous blog administrative items:

  • See new FNY Videos from 4-17 game to the left.  Will try to add after most Friday games and will get better with holding still the camera.
  • Also Twitter is big in the news these days.  So we’ve added a Twitter sidebar.  See bottom right hand side for a few regular ‘tweets’ you can click and follow if you’d like.  The updates from Twitter are probably several times  a day and more frequent than these posts so if you come here first you will get more frequent stories from those links.
  • We’ve also added ClusterMaps which just show where those that come to this blog are coming from (which part of the country or world).   See right sidebar on the bottom just above the Twitter feed and click to see more details.

Feb 23 – Visitors Welcome (and feel free to vote too).

FNY(Suffern, NY) – The number of diverse locations (and thus people) that find this blog is amazing.  The introduction of some software tools (for example Sitemeter, in the bottom right sidebar) has allowed the blog masters to get a feel for which states or countries are visiting the blog.    We’ve seen California, Florida, Texas, Alabama, Illinois and Nevada to name just a few far away locations in the USA.  But we’ve also seen Sweden, Mexico, UK, Japan and Taiwan all swing through so the term Yankee Universe is a more appropriate phrase than ever before.  We thank all for stopping by at least once but several seem to come by more often.  This post is to encourage visitors to vote if there is a poll and even pass on a comment if you’d like.  All are welcome.  Go Yanks!

Feb 22 – Some Excellent Writing Abounds

wordpress2(Suffern, NY) – Yankee Blogs are all the rage these days and from time to time we just have to tip the hat to those guys and gals that do a great job with certain posts or scoops.  At the risk of you leaving ‘Friday Night Yanks‘ and never returning, I respectfully point out these really good pieces which you should comment on at the other blog if you wish:

  • Jeter – In Decline? – See our friends at Heartland Pinstripes at this post.
  • A-Rod – Keeping Bad Company? – Check out this this post at Scott Proctor’s Arm.
  • Mets – Not So Smart?  See Rivera’s Cutter for a nice analysis on the deals they missed here.
  • Stadium Photos – See the latest from Voice of Yankees Universe at this post.
  • A-Rod – Juicing in 2007? – Sliding into Home points out some things to think about in this post.
