Down on the Farm: SWB Yanks Also in First Place

Triple-A Squad at 15-9 in the First Month

(Scranton, PA) – Sporting a similar record to the parent club the SWB Yanks are off to a good start as well.  Sitting on top of the North Division in the International League, the team has played well on the road with a 10-6 record.  Jesus Montero is batting .359 while Jorge Vazquez, who had a good spring in Florida, is carrying the club with a .309 BA, 9 Homers and 27 RBI’s so far.  Justin Maxwell also has 9 homers and 21 RBI’s on the young season.  On the pitching front Andrew Brackman, George Kontos and Andrew Sisco all have 2 victories early on.  Here’s hoping the winning trend and hitting continues!

Jun 19 – Annual Road Trip: SWB Yanks Fall to IronPigs 5-4

Montero and Pilletere Homer in Losing Cause

(Allentown, PA) – Two from Section 430 (Brendan and Tom) along with Rob Mc, made the 4th annual minor league trip to Allentown to see the Scranton Yanks hook up with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.    While the Bronx Yanks would win on the day (5-3 with homers from Tex and Granderson and Phil Hughes improving to 10-1), the Triple-A squad got off to a rocky start with Tim Redding giving up 3 in the first and would eventual come up one run short in a 5-4 affair.  Nelson Figueora pitched well for the Iron Pigs.

It was a great night for baseball, warm and a large crowd of 10,000 in attendance.  It was fun to see some former major league players such as Willie Taveras and Cody Ransom, while also seeing the future Yankee stars such as Jesus Montero.

Sep 14 – Scranton Yanks Reach Governor’s Cup Final Again

Re-Match with Durham Bulls is Set

Scranton Yanks(Scranton, PA) – The SWB yanks look to win another Triple-A cahmpionship when they take on the Durham Bulls.

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees have only five players returning from last year’s championship series: Juan Miranda, Chris Stewart, Eric Duncan, Kei Igawa and Zach Kroenke (right).    All but Duncan are significant parts of this year’s Scranton/Wilkes-Barre roster, and Kroenke is returning after throwing the last pitch of last year’s championship.  International League Rookie of the Year Austin Jackson will be with the club as they look to defend while IL MVP Shelley Duncan will be in the Bronx for the stretch run.

Aug 2 – Annual Road Trip: Scranton Yanks Beat Pawsox 8-2 and 4-0

FNY Team Enjoys a Summer Doubleheader in PA

Scranton Yanks(Scranton, PA) – Four from the FNY team (Brendan, James, Jim Sr. and Tom) along with 2 guests (Jim C. and Rick W.) made the annual trek to a minor league game.  And at least the Triple-A squad can beat the Red Sox this year as they took two from them on Saturday behind great pitching from Kei Igawa and newly-acquired Jason Hirsch.

The Yanks top-prospect, Austin Jackson, did not disappoint and had a good night, with a big triple to key the win in the first game.  Oveall the team looked good and balanced while the Red Sox farm club seemed realtively light, especially on offense.

Jun 21 – SWB Yankees Washout

3rd Annual Game Postponed to Aug 1st

Scranton Yanks(Scranton, PA) – Well 3 from Sec 430 (Brendan, James and Tom with guest Jeff) tried to make the annual trek to see the farm boys but the Saturday rains postponed the game to a Sunday double-header.  Then with nice clouds and blue skies Brendan and Tom did their best to uphold the tradition and actually sat in the stands and watched the grounds crew blow dry the outfield.  However the 1:05 start was cancelled at about 2 PM when the team decided the field was not playable!

We will try the annual event on Saturday August 1st when the SWB Yanks play the Pawtucket Red Sox.
